Description
Die chips are small pieces of metal in relief, and who are not part of the original drawing. Appearing most often in places where the pressure is stronger, for exemples the edge of letters, numbers and parts of the drawing where the space between the various elements of the design is fairly small.
Explanations
These places look like small islands or peninsulas on the surface of the die. They undergo, striking after striking, the effect of pressure and sliding of the metal on their edges, creating fragments. They may also be due to the quenching of the die or a debris during the strike.
A die chip, if it overflows the edge of the die, is a cuds.
