Centenary - Rotated 90 degrees

While striking the 2001 Centenary of Federation (COF) dollar coin there was a problem during the production run of one pair of obverse and reverse dies. The obverse die wasn’t fastened correctly and it slowly rotated as it struck more coins. This meant that instead of the produced coins having the usual medal alignment (obverse and reverse oriented the same way) they were produced with all manner of angles between the obverse and reverse dies. 180 degrees rotations are also known.

Centenary - Colorized

The Australian Cricket Board used the $1 coloured proof coin from the Royal Australian Mint's new year 2001 Mint Set during the toss of the first Ansett Australia Test Match between Australia and the West Indies in Brisbane on November 23, 2000.

The second Ansett Australia test match at the WACA also started with the special $1 proof coin from the Royal Australian Mint. The Ansett Australia test match between Australia and the West Indies started in Perth on December 1.
