Fourth time since the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the obverse of legal tender Australian coins changed effigy of Her Majesty in 1999.

The Royal Australian Mint began featuring the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait on selected collector coins during 1998, but all general circulation coins have the new effigy starting in 1999.

Older Persons

Australia - towards a society for all ages was the theme chosen to celebrate the United Nations International Year of Older Persons.The $1 coin was devoted to the logo representing the Year, which is surrounded by a border stating the name of the Year and the theme.

Elizabeth Busts

As a tribute to The Queen, the Mint produced a $1 Fine Silver Proof Coin titled Majestic Images. This 40 mm one-time-release coin displays the new effigy on the obverse, and all past effigies overlapping each other on the reverse. The $1 Majestic Images coin retailed for $47.75.

Anzac

This coin features a WWI Anzac in his slouch hat and the uniform of the time. This coin was launched by Bruce Scott, Minister assisting the Minister for Defence and Dr Charles Howse grandson of Sir Neville Howse and Major General Rupert Downes, both medical officers and ANZACs.

This silver coin was encapsulated and packed in a jewellery-style case and in an outer box featuring ANZAC Cove.
