Ten cent 2000 - Not intended for circulation
The 2000 Royal Australian Mint proof coins set was presented in a see-both-sides hard plastic case and presented in a special leatherette protective wallet and a colourful presentation box.
Most years since 1966, the Royal Australian Mint has released a proof set containing proof examples of Australia's circulating coinage. Proof coins have a different and more refined manufacturing process than circulation coins. The dies are polished to give a cameo-like/mirror-like or matte finish.
In 2000, the 50 cents coin original design was replaced with the a coloured Millennium Year design. This design, without colour, was also used on the 2000 circulating half dollar. The colour used for Australian flag in the reverse design was restricted to the proof version only.
A Koala Baby proof set was also released. In 2000, the coins were housed, individually encapsulated, in a plush green leatherette, hinged lid presentation case and a colourful presentation box. Also included is an Antique Finish, Sterling Silver (92.5%), medallion with a diameter of 45 mm, a thickness of 3 mm and a weight of 43 grams. One side of the medallion is blank to enable a child's name to be engraved. 15,557 Baby proof sets were released.
