Most years since 1966, the Royal Australian Mint has released a proof set containing proof examples of Australia's circulating coinage. Proof coins have a different and more refined manufacturing process than circulation coins. The dies are polished to give a cameo-like/mirror-like or matte finish.

In 1991, the Royal Australian Mint produced a complete sterling silver set called masterpieces in a black box for the Jubilee, including the 50 cents 25th Anniversary of Decimal Currency design.
