By AG    |   Friday, 11 July 2025

The Royal Australian Mint, in keeping with the tradition of celebrating milestones of the Royal Family, released in 2010 an official royal engagement coins for Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton.

The Royal Wedding Coin design, featuring a portrait of the couple, was released in the coming weeks leading up to the wedding.

Prince William and Catherine Middleton were married on Friday, April 29, 2011, at Westminster Abbey in London. The ceremony took place at 11:00 am local time. The event was a semi-state wedding, with around 1,900 guests attending, including royalty, heads of state, and friends and family.

The day was declared a national holiday in the UK.

Following the ceremony, the newly married couple, now known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, participated in a carriage procession to Buckingham Palace. They appeared on the palace balcony, where they were greeted by a large crowd and an RAF flypast, and shared two kisses.

The Queen hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace, and Prince Charles hosted a private dinner in the evening. The wedding cake, a traditional multi-tiered fruitcake, was designed by Fiona Cairns.
