To celebrate 120 years of the Australian Open, the Royal Australian Mint teamed up with Australia Post.

While visiting a participating Australia Post outlet, a customer have a chance to find an Australian Open coin in change with any cash purchase, while stocks last. Both a men's and women's coin were made.

Designed by Aaron Baggio, these coins feature a bold blue tennis ball, reflecting the signature colours of the iconic tennis court, with a sculpted tennis player frozen mid-motion in the power of the shot. The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, designed by Daniel Thorne.

Either way you choose to interpret the design, together the designs appear as if the players are playing a game of tennis.

The Australian Open is a tennis tournament organised by Tennis Australia annually at Melbourne Park, since 1988, in Melbourne, Victoria. It is chronologically the first of the four Grand Slam tennis events every year, held before the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.

First held in 1905 as the Australasian championships, the Australian Open has grown to become one of the biggest sporting events in the Southern Hemisphere.
