Olympics and Paralympics Coins and New 2026 Coins

The 2026 Winter Olympics (XXV Winter Olympic Games) known as Milano Cortina 2026, is scheduled to take place from February 6 to Febrary 22, 2026 at sites across Lombardy and Northeast Italy.
Like for most Olympics recently, the Mint produced 2026 $1 coloured uncirculated coins.
A seated alpine skiers inspired the Winter Paralympic design. Michael Milton, Australia’s first-ever Winter gold medallist (1992), famously completed a gold sweep in 2002, winning all four events in his class. He remains Australia's most decorated Winter Paralympian. His six gold medals were won across three different Games: Albertville 1992 (1), Lillehammer 1994 (1), and Salt Lake City 2002 (4).
A freestyle skiers inspired the Winter Olympic design. Alisa Camplin, aerials discipline is Australia's first-ever skiing gold medallist. She won despite having fractures in both ankles at the time. Between Alisa Camplin and Lydia Lassila, Australia established itself as a powerhouse in Women's Aerials. Both athletes also won bronze medals in Camplin in 2006 and Lassila in 2014. Lydia Lassila won gold with an Olympic record score. She is also the first Australian woman to compete in five Winter Olympics.
The Australian freestyle skiing contingent for 2026 is a mix of gold-medal-winning veterans and record-breaking teenagers, officially named Australia's second-largest Winter Olympic team ever.
For the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games, the alpine and freestyle skiing events are split across three primary locations in the Italian Alps.
For Alpine Skiing, the men will compete on the Stelvio slope (Bormio - Stelvio Ski Centre), one of the most technical and difficult runs on the World Cup circuit. It features a maximum gradient of 63%. The women will race on the Olympia delle Tofane slope (Cortina d’Ampezzo - Tofane Alpine Skiing Centre). This venue is iconic in the Dolomites and has a long history of hosting the Women’s World Cup speed events.
For Freestyle Skiing, All freestyle skiing events will be held in the Livigno area, known as Italy's Little Tibet due to its high altitude and reliable snow. The events are split between two specialized parks (Livigno Aerials & Moguls Park and Livigno Snow Park).

Paris 2024 Summer Olympics
With the opening ceremonies of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games on the horizon, the Royal Australian Mint released several Olympics and Paralympics coins in 2024.
The 2024 $1 Coloured Uncirculated Australian Olympic Team coin focuses on swimming with the pool’s floating lane dividers making up the colour printed portion of the design. The 2024 $1 Coloured Uncirculated Paralympic Team coin depicts a table tennis player hitting mid swing.

The 2024 $5 Fine Silver Domed Coin features an athlete performing the triple jump showing the approached, jump and landing juxtaposed against each other in front of a stylised athletics field. The 2024 $5 Selectively Gold-Plated Fine Silver Proof Paralympic Team coin features a long jump athlete and a track athlete highlighted in gold plate. Behind them is an athletics track with the Eiffel Tower protruding through the centre.
Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics
A number of $2 coins were released by the Mint for the Olympics and Paralympics themed Striving, Dedication, Passion, Resilience, Courage and Set to Soar.

A round gold plated 50 cents Australian Olympic Team was produced in 2020.

Rio 2016 Summer Olympics
To celebrate Rio 2016, Woolworths and the Royal Australian Mint have launched a series of limited edition Australian Olympic and Paralympic $2 coins. These $2 coins are made out of the same metal as the standard $2 coins - aluminium bronze.
The 5 Olympic coins feature 32 sport motifs ranging from volleyball, judo, boxing to running and feature the colours of the Olympic rings. The Paralympic coin features a wheelchair in motion and the colours synonymous with the Australian Paralympic Team, being the first multi-coloured $2 coin.

In 2016, a $3,000 Gold Proof Coin (1 Kilogram), a $30 Fine Silver Proof Coin (1 Kilogram) and a $5 Fine Silver Selectively Gold Plated Proof Coin were also produced for Rio 2016 and part of the 2016 Australian Olympic Team Coin Program Ambassadors.
Finally, an aluminium bronze Mob of Boxing Kangaroos was released and packaged in three different cards sharing each ambassador’s (Patty Mills, Melissa Breen, Thomas Fraser-Holmes) journey on the road to Rio.
London 2012 Summer Olympics
In 2012, a 60 cents stamp-looking coin was produced.

Athens 2004 Summer Olympics
Two $5 fine silver proof coin were made. One featuring two buildings; the Parthenon in the foreground and the Sydney Opera House in the background. The Australian Olympic Team logo is presented in holographic form.
Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics
The result of a collaboration between the Royal Australian Mint and the Perth Mint, a collection of 28 commemorative $5 coins representing sports of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games were produced. All coins are dated 2000 but were issued over the period 1997 to 2000.
