Twenty cent 1988 - Not intended for circulation

The 1988 Royal Australian Mint proof coins set was presented in a clear acrylic case with brownish and red folder used for protection. A small amount of sets (3,000 out of 104,000) were packaged with The Australian International Coin Fair 1988 inscription.

Most years since 1966, the Royal Australian Mint has released a proof set containing proof examples of Australia's circulating coinage. Proof coins have a different and more refined manufacturing process than circulation coins. The dies are polished to give a cameo-like/mirror-like or matte finish.

In 1988, the 1 dollar coin original design was replaced with the Aboriginal Art one for circulating and proof coins. This is the first time the proof sets include a 2 dollars coin.

Twenty cent 1988 value
